Chief Scientist predicts "bottom-up" effort to tackle climate change
(BusinessGreen, 20 Jan 2010)
The UK’s chief scientific advisor John Beddington said that while the Copenhagen summit was a disappointment, “a bottom-up approach” to curbing GHG emissions will continue, as will increased commercial investment in low-carbon technologies. He predicted that national climate change strategies would have a greater influence on corporate investment decisions than a global agreement.

New Requests for Proposals - Energy Storage & Distribution Programme |

Two Requests for Proposals issued in Fault Current Management.
Two new Requests for Proposals have been issued by the ETI in its Energy Storage and Distribution programme.
The ETI is commissioning two projects addressing fault current management technologies. Each project will develop, test, demonstrate and evaluate the performance of one of the two leading Fault Current Limiter technology concepts, namely: • a Resistive Superconducting Fault Current Limiter (RSFCL), and • a Pre-saturated Core Fault Current Limiter (PCFCL).
These projects represent a unique opportunity for device developers to develop and demonstrate a device in a real operating environment on an electricity distribution network, and will provide invaluable sources of ongoing support and marketing references from key players in the UK electricity market. There is a significant market opportunity and the potential to build new partnerships.
Requests for Proposals for the development, build, test and demonstration of each device can be found here and here.
The deadline for notifying intention to submit a proposal is 18th January 2010. The ETI will then invite suitable candidates to a workshop on 25th and 26th January 2010. The deadline for receipt of proposals is 4th February 2010.
